Estimated Weekly Repayment

$282.07*

per week

Indicative interest rate 6.85% p.a.
Comparison rate 9.52% p.a. *

Based on the statutory $30,000 / 5-year secured-loan example and applicable fees.

Why is the comparison rate higher?

The comparison rate uses the prescribed $30,000 over 5 years example and includes applicable fees and charges. Because some finance fees are fixed, they have a larger percentage effect on that smaller example than they may on a larger caravan loan. It is not the interest rate applied to the loan amount you entered above.

Repayment estimates include NLF’s current indicative allowance for common finance fees and charges. Actual lender rates, fees and repayments may vary.

NLF is a finance broker that compares options across multiple lenders. This is an indicative estimate only — not a credit offer, approval, or lender assessment. Credit Score and Residential Status selections are illustrative inputs, not a credit assessment.

WARNING: This comparison rate applies only to the example or examples given. Different amounts and terms will result in different comparison rates. Costs such as redraw fees or early repayment fees, and cost savings such as fee waivers, are not included in the comparison rate but may influence the cost of the loan.

Boat & Marine Finance Options in Australia

Boats and marine assets vary widely in type, value, age and how they are purchased or used. As a licensed finance broker, NLF can assess suitable finance options across its lender panel for eligible new and used boats and certain other marine assets, whether purchased through a dealer or private seller.

Boats & Marine Assets That May Be Financed

Boat finance may be available for eligible new and used vessels, including many trailer boats, fishing boats, aluminium boats, fibreglass boats, bow riders, centre consoles, cruisers and pontoon boats. Certain personal watercraft and other marine assets may also be considered depending on the lender and the particular asset.

Eligibility is not determined by the marketing category alone. Lenders may consider factors such as the type of vessel, age, condition, value, registration or identification details, intended use and whether the asset is acceptable as loan security.

Older, unusual, highly modified, custom-built or specialised vessels may require additional assessment, and not every lender will finance every marine asset. NLF can assess the available options rather than assuming a particular boat or marine asset will qualify.

Dealer, Factory-Order & Private-Sale Boat Finance

Dealer purchase: NLF can assist with finance for eligible boats and marine assets purchased through a dealership, subject to lender assessment and policy. The lender makes the credit decision, and NLF does not control the dealership, vehicle or vessel delivery, or lender approval.

Factory order / new build: Where an eligible boat is being ordered or built, finance and settlement requirements can depend on the lender, the vessel, purchase documentation and the build or delivery stage. NLF does not control manufacturing, completion, delivery, dealer obligations or deposits, and not every lender will finance an asset before it is completed.

Private sale: NLF can assist with finance for many eligible used boats purchased privately, subject to the asset, lender policy and the buyer’s circumstances. Private-sale transactions may involve additional seller, asset, registration, PPSR/security and settlement checks. The lender makes the credit decision, and NLF does not guarantee approval, title or security clearance, or settlement timing.

Boat Loan Options & What Lenders Consider

For eligible personal-use purchases, a secured consumer loan may be appropriate. Where a boat or marine asset is genuinely being acquired for business use and the applicant is eligible, a commercial finance structure may potentially be available. Having an ABN, being self-employed or owning a business does not automatically make the purchase commercial, and commercial finance is not a default product for every buyer.

Lender assessment can depend on factors such as the applicant’s circumstances, credit profile, income and affordability, the amount requested, any deposit or trade-in, loan term, vessel type, age, condition and value, purchase method, intended use and lender policy.

NLF is a finance broker and can assess suitable options across its lender panel rather than being restricted to one finance provider. Not every lender is considered or available for every applicant or asset. Rates, fees, repayments, borrowing amounts, approval and turnaround times are not guaranteed.

FAQ

Boat & Marine Finance Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on boat and marine finance, dealer and private-sale purchases, new builds, deposits, borrowing, rates and applying with NLF as a broker.

What is boat finance and how does it work?

Boat finance can be used to fund an eligible new or used boat or certain other marine assets, with the finance structure depending on the buyer, the asset and lender policy. For eligible personal-use buyers, this may involve a secured consumer loan where the financed asset is used as security. Eligible business buyers may have different commercial finance options where the boat or marine asset is genuinely being acquired for business use.

National Leisure Finance is a finance broker, not a bank. NLF can assess suitable options across its lender panel and help manage the application and settlement process. Approval remains subject to the lender’s credit criteria, assessment and conditions.

What types of boats and marine assets may be financed?

Finance may be available for eligible new and used vessels including many trailer boats, fishing boats, aluminium boats, fibreglass boats, bow riders, centre consoles, cruisers and pontoon boats. Certain personal watercraft and other marine assets may also be considered depending on the lender and the particular asset.

The category name alone does not determine whether an asset can be financed. Lenders may consider the vessel type, age, condition, value, registration or identification details, intended use and suitability as loan security. Older, unusual, highly modified, custom-built or specialised vessels may require additional assessment.

Can I finance a new boat from a dealer?

Yes, finance may be available for eligible new boats and marine assets purchased through a dealership, subject to lender approval and policy.

The lender may assess the buyer, asset, purchase price and transaction before approving finance. Where approved, settlement is generally arranged against the required dealer documentation. NLF acts as the finance broker and can help coordinate the finance process, but does not control the dealership, delivery or lender approval.

Can finance be arranged for a factory-order or boat that is still being built?

Potentially, but the finance and settlement requirements can depend on the lender, vessel, purchase documentation and stage of the build.

A factory order or new build may involve a deposit, build period and final invoice before the vessel is ready for settlement. Some lenders may require the asset to be completed or satisfy particular requirements before funds can be advanced.

NLF can assess potential finance options, but does not control manufacturing, completion, delivery dates, dealer or builder obligations, or deposit arrangements.

Can I finance a used boat bought from a private seller?

Yes, finance may be available for many eligible used boats purchased privately, subject to the vessel, lender policy and your circumstances.

Private-sale transactions can involve additional seller, asset, registration, PPSR/security and settlement checks compared with a dealership purchase. The lender makes the credit decision and determines its security requirements. NLF can help coordinate the process, but approval, title or security clearance and settlement timing are not guaranteed.

How much can I borrow for a boat?

There is no single borrowing limit that applies to every boat-finance applicant. The amount available can depend on the lender, your financial circumstances, income and affordability, credit profile, amount requested and the asset being financed.

Boat and marine asset values can vary substantially, so lender appetite and assessment can also vary. NLF can assess suitable options across its lender panel, but the lender determines the amount it is prepared to approve.

Do I need a deposit for boat finance?

Not necessarily. Whether a deposit is required can depend on the lender, the asset, purchase price, amount being financed and your circumstances.

A deposit paid to a dealer, builder or seller as part of a purchase is also not necessarily the same thing as a lender requiring a contribution toward the finance. Buyers should understand the seller’s deposit terms and how their proposed finance may work before committing to a significant payment.

Can I get pre-approval before choosing a boat?

Pre-approval may be available before you have selected the final boat. This can help provide an indicative borrowing position and budget before you start negotiating with a dealer or private seller.

Pre-approval is not unconditional final approval. Final finance can still depend on the selected vessel, purchase details, verification requirements and lender conditions.

How long does boat finance approval take?

There is no single approval timeframe for every boat-finance application. Timing can depend on the lender, application complexity, documentation required, verification, the vessel and whether the purchase is through a dealer or private seller.

Some applications can progress quickly when the required information is available, while others require additional assessment. An indicative or conditional approval is also different from final approval and settlement, so those stages should not be treated as the same thing.

What affects boat finance interest rates?

The rate available can depend on factors such as the lender, loan structure, amount financed, term, applicant profile and the vessel itself. Different lenders can assess the same application differently.

NLF is a finance broker and can assess suitable options across its lender panel rather than being restricted to one finance provider. Not every lender is considered or available for every applicant or asset, and the final rate and conditions depend on lender assessment.

The repayment calculator on this page provides an indicative estimate only — it is not a lender offer, approval or guaranteed interest rate.

Can self-employed or business buyers finance a boat?

Potentially. Self-employed applicants can apply for boat finance, with the available options depending on their circumstances, documentation, the asset and lender policy.

Where the boat or marine asset is genuinely being acquired for business use and the applicant is eligible, a commercial finance structure may also be available. Being self-employed, holding an ABN or owning a business does not automatically make the purchase commercial, and commercial finance should not be presented as the default option for every self-employed buyer.

Why use a boat finance broker instead of going directly to one lender?

A finance broker can assess suitable options across a lender panel rather than being limited to one lender’s products and policy. Different lenders can have different approaches to applicants, loan structures and marine assets.

NLF can help assess potentially suitable options, coordinate the application and assist through the finance process. This does not mean every lender is considered for every applicant, and NLF does not guarantee the lowest rate, approval or a particular outcome.
